Official: DMC Lamborghini Murcielago Molto Veloce

German Tuner DMC has presented their Molto Veloce body kit for the Lamborghini Murcielago. As the name indicates, DMC’s design is based on Lamborghini’s popular SV Edition, also called LP670. Murcielago owners will be able to add the ultra popular SV look to their super car.

To achieve greater downforce on the front, DMC offers a redesigned front and rear bumper with an integrated diffuser, “SV” style. In typical DMC tradition, all parts are being manufactured in pure carbon fiber by an Autoclave Vacuum oven. The tuner from Duesseldorf, Germany offers a complete interior make-over using carbon fiber and fine leathers.

The ECU remapping is provided to bring out those few extra horse-powers, pushing the Murcielago from normally available 572 to 600hp, while increasing torque from 479 to 495Nm. DMC‘s software improves power and torque by carefully refining the fuel delivery ignition time and load values as well as throttle settings which improve the overall performance.

The DMC stainless sports rear silencer (end pipe) emits an improved sound track. If that‘s not enough, customers can extend their exhaust system with a DMC sport metallic catalytic converter.

Lamborghini to Unveil Ultimate Gallardo at IAA 2011

More details emerged about the mysterious Lamborghini “super sports car” which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

According to Auto Express the V10 powered Gallardo is set to goes out with a bang. The British motoring magazine has learned that the Italian manufacturer of sport cars will officially present the most hardcore Gallardo ever produced.

The Gallardo is Lamborghini’s most-produced model to date, with over 10,000 built. The final version of the successful Gallardo will be a roadgoing version of the limited Super Trofeo racing car, designed for the brands one-make racing series

Only 30 units of the track version Gallardo Super Trofeo has been made. This car is based on the Gallardo LP 560-4 sports car, but has been upgraded via a reworked chassis, improved aerodynamics and race suspension. The track version of the Gallardo also features the six-speed E-gear paddleshift transmission. The Super Trofeo is powered by 5.2 liter V10 which offers 562hp. Thanks to the expensive use of composite materials the weight of this car is 1,300kg, which is 110kg lighter than the standard Gallardo and 40kg less than the Superleggera.

The ultimate version of the Gallardo which will be unveiled in Frankfurt next month will built following the same philosophy. This would suggest that the final and very limited version of the Gallardo will be more powerful, lighter and more aggressive than any other road going Gallardo. An acceleration of 0-100km/h would be done in three seconds, the top speed would be somewhere near the 340km/h.

The Gallardo will be replaced next year by a car named the Cabrera. Additionaly, Lamborghini is planning a roadster version of the Aventador which will be unveiled towards the end of 2012.

Miami is one of the biggest markets for Lamborghini. Which is why they brought a very unique Aventador to the unveiling ceremony of the car, along with hot models and Valentino Balboni himself. It’s a matte black one which looks freezingly cool. So far we’d just seen this car in red and white, but this color just suits the amazing looks of the car better. Lamborghini ‘super sports car’ coming to Frankfurt

The Frankfurt Motors show will see a new Lamborghini being unveiling this time around. The Italian supercar maker is all set to debut the production version of the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento concept the company showcased at the Paris Motor show last year. The car that is set to debut though will be primarily for track use. However, the car is also hailed as the basis for the future Gallardo replacement. For now though, the new super sports car from Lamborghini will only be seen on race tracks.

Lamborghini had earlier made it clear that the Sesto Elemento concept when put into production will be a track special and hence the model that is set to debut next month would be on the lines of the official announcement made earlier. This time however, the word ‘concept’ will be dropped from its name. We will have to wait for the official word as to what the company plans for the future. The Gallardo is long due for a replacement and this is evident from the fact that it is losing ground to the Ferrari 458 Italia.

The Ferrari 458 Italia has set new benchmarks in this segment of the sports car market. The Lamborghini comes no where close to the poise and precision of the Ferrari which is hailed by aficionados as one of the greatest Ferraris ever built. The struggle for supremacy has been an ongoing affair between these two Italian heavyweights but, this time Ferrari seems to have leaped miles ahead of the raging bull from Sant’ Agata. We all know Lamborghini will bounce back and it is just a matter of time until the super car maker comes up with a suitable contender to take on the Ferrari 458 Italia.

The Lamborghini Aventador Polizia?

Lamborghini has launched a tradition in the recent past by offering some of their cars to Italian Police Forces. We've all seen the Gallardo in Polizia livery but now, it's the Aventador's turn.

Milanno Artworks, along with CarreraDesign, have come up with four renderings of what the Aventador Polizia may look like, should the famed Italian car brand decide to create another of its famous cop cars.

As this is not a “real” car, details are scarce. We expect that it will feature, as the Gallardo does, a defibrillator and a refrigerated container for quick organ transport. Speaking of quick, this blue and white street-racer's nightmare should be powered by the same 700hp V12.

Although stealth is not a word that can describe the Aventador, all the LED lights on this car are located within the air intakes and on the dashboard; a huge light-pod on the roof would ruin the Lambo's otherwise sensual and aerodynamic lines.

Oakley Design gives Lamborghini 760-hp, rear-wheel-drive

What you’re looking at here is the first tuning program for the Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador. Done by Oakley Design, three of these custom models have already been sold. While Oakley Design will only produce five Limited Edition models, individual parts will be available for customers who do not require the complete package.

While Lamborghini calls its new flagship supercar the LP700-4, Oakley Design calls it the LP760-2. LP700-4 stands for 700 horses and the 4 stands for all-wheel-drive. In Oakley’s world, the LP760-2 stands for 760-hp with a maximum torque of 550 lb-ft and the 2 stands for all that power being sent to the rear-wheels.

Oakley is also knocking off some weight with the help of Intrax. Suspension upgrades and the removal of the front differential, drive shafts and associated front drivetrain parts will reduce curb weight by 187 pounds.

The outstanding Sesto Elemento by Lamborghini, that gave an insight into the Italian firm's technologycal secrecy of the future, has been greenlighted for serial production in the coming years. And guess what? Only a few, lucky customers will stand the chance to get behind the wheel of the Lambo supercar.

The mind-blowing Sesto Elemento Concept shocked the audience gathered on the stage of the Mondial de l'Automobile Paris in October 2010, but it also raised a big question in the minds of everyone: will Lamborghini ever assemble a street-legal variant of this tremendous prototype? The definitive answer is still lurking in darkness, but a ray of hope emerged these days.

The Sesto Elemento will be uncloaked some time after 2011 (probably after mid-2012, if you ask me) and will borrow most of the outrageous skills premiered by the Paris concept. The future hypercar will sport an advanced construction technology, as engineers are said to have extensively used carbon fiber/CFRP (carbon is the sixth element in the periodical table of chemical elements and here comes the Sesto Elemento title from), aluminium and composite materials to master the ultra-lightweight body and chassis. The psychologycal limit of 999 kilos (including the engine and transmission) could be a dream for other car manufacturers, but not for Lamborghini, as Stephan Winkelmann, head of the company, claims.

A 5.2 litres V10 unit will be roaring in the engine bay; when it comes to taming the entire 570 ponnies, it all goes down to the finely-tuned 4x4 platform, that is in charge to deliver the best sports capabilities as well as maintaining a high level of ride safety and power balance. Peak performance figures indicate that the road variant of the Sesto Elemento will be able to reach 100 km/h in a staggering time of 2.5 seconds, which is years away from what others could come up with at this moment. Top speed is expected to go beyond 300 km/h; given the spectacular power to weight ratio of just 1.75 kg/hp and the sensational maximum torque of the V10 powerplant, I think the car might be capable of at least 330 km/h when it's officially released.

At this time, inside details are still very slowly surfacing, but from what we know for the moment, the future sounds more than promising, as the development process is tipped to have entered the final phases. Around 20 exquisite examples will roll out of the factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese, each of it wearing a prohibitive price tag of 2 million euros. Don't worry about that: seeing that other special edition supercars were completely sold out in a matter of days, the Sesto Elemento will surely face a successful outcome, at least as a mark of respect and appreciation for the brilliant team which engineered it.

Before 2011 rolls over to 2012, Mumbai will give some space for the raging bulls from Italy to be showed off. That’s right, AutoHangar is the latest Lambo dealer for India and will set shop in late 2011 in Worli or some other location in south Bombay. While Exclusive Motors have been dealing with Lamborghini imports for India and have been handing the Delhi sales and service, AutoHangar will handle the sales and service at Mumbai.

If you’ve got a strange feeling of having heard the AutoHangar name before, you very well could have as AutoHangar has been Mumbai’s Mercedes Benz dealer for quite some time now. It looks like a trend of sorts this, with luxury car dealers now getting into supercars. Logical progression it may be as just yesterday, Infinity Motors, which runs BMW dealerships in Mumbai and Nagpur has just been appointed the official distributor for Aston Martin in India.

Meanwhile, Lamborghini has earmarked 8-10 units of it’s latest range topping supercar, the Aventador, specially for India and already there seems to be a scramble for these 4 Crore rupee supercars as AutoCarIndia reports. Lamborghini LP670-4 SuperVeloce Gets a Makeover

Supercars are good looking as standard, just the way they are when they leave the factory doors. For some of us however, that doesn't seem to be enough. The side effect of dullness may be this Chrome Purple Lamborghini LP670-4 SuperVeloce.

Perhaps not all Lamborghini owners chose to upgrade their car’s performance. The 670 horsepower that the V12 engine produces, accompanied by all-wheel drive and performance stats that are just mind-blowing, such as 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration in just 3.1 seconds and 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) in just 10 seconds time, may not represent aspects to take into consideration for some Lamborghini clients that are eager to spend some funds updating the Italian sportscar, but looks certainly sell. The car was produced in just 350 units, so it's very hard to grab one and modify it to personal aesthetic needs.

Supercars, since their existence on this Planet, were created to push boundaries forward and test the maximum capabilities of engineering. This Lamborghini however proves to push design limits and acceptance to a whole new level. As far as the bodywork is concerned, some serious changes were operated, starting with the paint scheme that is matte purple for one side to the other.

Other visual details that are extra from the standard version are the wheels, which now are ADV.1 Deep Concave ADv05 rims. The LP670-4 Chrome Purple SuperVeloce may become a trendsetter with this colored chrome foil wraps colour.

Chrome, gold, silver and big rims we’ve seen before, but a purple paint scheme is something rare and eccentric. This Lamborghini may easily be regarded as the pioneer of colored chrome foil supercars.

The Underground Racing Lamborghini Gallardos are known to us all. The twin-turbocharged race monsters produce more than 1,000hp easily.

Last weekend, during the Caffeine and Octane event in Georgia, USA, a black spyder version of the UR Gallardo was crashed after loosing control. In the video below you can see that the crash has nothing to do with speed or whatsoever. People who know the owner state that it was simply bad luck.

Before some smart comments come up like, “needs to learn to drive.” He has owned this sports car for over a year, and his other cars include a rebuilt TT Z06 making 1200whp+.

Lamborghini Miura SV Prototype Sells for $1.7 Million!

The Lamborghini Miura is arguably Lamborghini's most iconic model, highly sought after when new and today a much sought after classic.

The SV was the last version of the Miura series produced, certainly the best developed and for many, the best looking of the Miura variations. Gooding & Company held its Amelia Island Auction recently and one of it's star lot's was a 1971 Miura SV "Prototype" which sold for a staggering $1,705,000, as far as I am aware a record price for a Miura?

To put the Miura's sale price into perspective, a 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider sold at this auction for $1,320,000 and the Miura's sale price was only beaten at the auction by a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Cabriolet that finally went for a record (for a 212) $1,870,000.

Gooding described the SV Prototype as follows, " Chassis No. 4758 was hand-built as part of a factory project to develop the Miura SV; believed to have been shown at the 1971 Geneva Auto Show; restored by Wayne Obry and Jeff Stephan; won an award in the featured Lamborghini class at Pebble Beach in 2008."

Lamborghini Miura It's believed that this Miura prototype was sold soon after the Geneva show and stayed in Italy for some years before moving to Germany. From there, the Miura surfaced in the U.S. where it was later restored as noted by Gooding.

The Miura remains for me, my all time favourite car design, fellow Miura enthusiasts may want to pick-up a copy of Joe Sackey's excellent coffee table book, "The Lamborghini Miura Bible," arguably the best book available for Miura enthusiasts and anyone looking to buy or restore one of these ultra desirable models.

An Exclusive Look at the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

There's no denying that the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was one of the biggest stars of the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. It had all the ingredients of a show-stopping supercar stuffed into a shape that was rivaled only by the models standing next to it.

But seeing the new Lamborghini sitting on a show stand is one thing. Hearing the Aventador LP700-4 ripping across the desert is another experience entirely. We know this because we recently spent a day with the new Lamborghini on a film shoot in the California desert.

The Aventador LP700-4 wore the same Argos orange color as the showcar, so it looked particularly striking after getting covered in a thick coat of dry lake silt. And when it fired up to head out for its beauty shots, the sound of its 6.5-liter V12 didn't disappoint.

We're looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this new Lamborghini later this spring, but for now we'll have to be content with this quick and dirty preview. After a career that lasted about ten years, Italy’s legendary Lamborghini Murcielago has already been replaced with a new model. And what a model!

The new Bull God will feature an earth shattering 700hp V12 and the highest power to weight ratio of any car in its class. Since you’re asking, the whole thing weighs 1,575kg - lean, for a two-door instrument of shouty oversteer.
The Aventador gets Lambo’s new ISR transmission, claimed to be faster and ‘more emotional’ than a dual-clutch system. The suspension is a Formula 1-style inboard pushrod spring and damper set-up, a system previously seen on only the most expensive hypercars, such as the Ferrari Enzo and Maserati MC12.
Perhaps this is the first video in the world that has the delicious V12 of the Aventador showing off it’s wares.

A bit of trivia, Aventador was the name of the bull that won the “Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñena” in 1993.

Prices start at £201,900 with first deliveries beginning later this year.

Lamborghini already sells out its Aventador supercar

It has only been a week since the new supercar's debut at the Geneva Motor Show, but Lamborghini says its Aventador LP 700-4 is already sold out for the next 12 months.

Lambo says it has "an exceptional order bank" for its new 12-cylinder flagship model.

"We confirmed our long-term strategy, which calls for stable and significant investments in new products even in difficult times. We see a slow and steady recovery of the market," said Stephen Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini in Italy.

As great as that all sounds, bear in mind that a huge production tally at Lambo isn't quite what you'd expect to find at just about any other automaker. Lamborghini delivered only 1,302 cars last year, down from 1,515 in 2009. The U.S. remains Lambos largest market but the second may come as a surprise: China. Last year, 209 Lambos were delivered there, a 150% increase over 2009.

Geneva 2011: Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

Lamborghini's fifth generation V12 supercar made its official debut in Geneva, and while we've already detailed every aspect of the Aventador LP700-4 in our in-depth article we published yesterday, today we finally had the opportunity to get some first person impressions of the latest Raging Bull.

Lamborghini had three Aventadors on display, ranging from the bright orange example we first saw in the studio photos to a more subtle grey and a stunning matte white. The white, in particular, shows off the various styling elements of the exterior, especially the muscular creases on the front and sides. Despite having more complex lines, the Aventador still manages to have a cleaner look than some of the later generation Murcielagos. We snag a few minutes inside, and the quality of materials is proof that Lamborghini is continuing to benefit the Volkswagen Group's influence.

While the whole world is waiting with bated breath to catch the first glimpse of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, someone has already come up with some renderings of its roadster version.

They’ve done a pretty good job given the fact that they only had some leaked photos to work on. They have got all the details spot on. Even if you haven’t seen the pictures of the Aventador yet, these renderings give you a good view of that as well. Now if you fancy this car we have to point out it won’t be due in at least three years. That is the case with every new model. First they have to sell enough coupes, only then they drop the roadster to keep things fresh.

That should not be a problem for the Aventador, since it replaces the hugely successful Murcielago and is better than the Murci in almost every aspect. Lamborghini says they already have like 50 orders just from Singapore.

The Lambo is not just a supercar

“FLAVOUR is like design: it has to be sexy, simple, intuitive, like a beautiful woman. It should never need to be understood or interpreted, its message is evident and sensual.” says Tonino Lamborghini.

Tonino, whose father Ferruccio introduced the Lamborghini to the auto world, is talking about coffee, or more specifically, the gourmet brew that carries his family name.

While most Malaysians still associate Lamborghini with fast, luxury cars, Lamborghini Caffe is already a household name in Italy and parts of Europe, having made its debut there in the 1990s.

And while his father is famous for creating fast cars and quality wines, Tonino, 63, gets the credit for his special brew of expresso.

Now, Klang Valley folks can have a taste of Tonino’s gourmet coffee that was launched at the Bangsar Shopping Centre on Wednesday.

“Although Italy doesn’t produce coffee beans, we Italians love our espresso. Considering that my father was a producer of high quality wine, we wanted to come up with high quality coffee,” says Tonino, 63, who hails from Bologna, Italy.

“It is a consequential Italian thing – wine, coffee and delicatessen,” he shares during a breakfast session for media members.

He adds that their coffee beans are derived and blended from various regions.

“I can’t tell you where the beans are from ... it’s a secret,” he says, tongue-in-cheek.

The Tonino Lamborghini Group, founded in 1981 by Tonino, is based in Palazzo del Vignola, a renaissance villa nearby Bologna. It was around that time that Tonino designed his first watch, reinterpreting the historic values and symbols which characterised his family.

Half way through the 1990s, Tonino launched his gourmet range that included high quality coffee and wines, pasta and sauces.

“I won’t say that our coffee is superior to other brands. But as the brand carries the luxury symbol of Lamborghini, we guarantee that the product is of the highest quality,” Tonino assures.

The Electric Lamborghini Minotauro – Pictures + Video

Lamborghini are famous for being the “other” Italian supercar manufacturer, having produced infamous vehicles like the Miura, the Countach and the recent Sesto Elemento, Lamborghini are yet to build an electric car. Design student Andrei Avarvarii decided to put that right and set about designing the Lamborghini Minotauro, a 100% electric Lamborghini supercar that seats 3 and can dash from 0-60 in under 4 seconds.

Avarvarii gave the Minotauro 30-70 weight distrubution, favouring the rear wheels, to maintain the spirit of the older rear wheel drive only Lambo’s and he used a Li-Tec flat-cell battery mounted in the floor to give the car a low centre of gravity.

With electric motors at each wheel and a KERS system feeding the front motors the Minotauro has 500hp and a staggering 2,000Nm of torque (the 1,001hp Bugatti Veyron has just 730Nm).

The Minotauro has seating for three, a side-by-side arrangement in the front plus on seat in the centre-rear (where the V10 would have been in a gasoline car).

Lamborghini have been rumoured to be working on a hybrid super car for some time now, many “purists” are adamantly against any form of electric power, we’re not sure what they plan on using for fuel once the oil runs out but we’ll keep you posted.

It’s also rumoured that Lamborghini is working with parent company Audi on the production of a show-stopping electric concept car for release at the 2011 Paris Motorshow, the car is said to use the same running gear as the Audi e-Tron but the composite carbon body will more closely resemble the Sesto Elemento.

The last came to fruition because Ferruccio Lamborghini did not like the clutch on his Ferrari, nor the fact that Enzo Ferrari rebuffed his ideas for a fix. Lamborghini’s response? He opened his own factory in 1963 and started building the perfection he envisioned. The rest is, as they say, history.

Over the years, the company’s outré style and pronounced wedge profile has been applied to many vehicles. My introduction to the brand came in the form of the LM 002, a truck (a term used advisedly) more commonly referred to as the “Rambo” Lambo — only 301 were ever built. To this day, thinking about driving that 440-horsepower all-wheel-drive monster makes me shudder: In anything other than a straight line, it just did not sit well. It was such that one did not steer; one pointed it in the general direction in much the same way as one points a rowboat. However, find a straightaway, nail the gas and the acceleration was, given the mass the 5.2-litre V12 was motivating, stunning. The LM 002’s ability to pick up its oversized rocker panels and run like the wind defied logic, but it sure was fun.

My second dalliance with Lamborghini came this week, in the form of the silky and oh-so-sexy Gallardo — an LP 570-4 Superleggera to be exact. This car is all about speed and its ability to enhance one’s manhood. The starting point is the 5.2L V10 engine. This thing develops 570 hp at a stratospheric 8,000 rpm and twists out 398.3 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 rpm. The stallions are relayed to the road through a six-speed automated manual transmission (it is a clutchless manual called e-gear in Lamborghini-speak), all four wheels (70% of the power going rearward, which gives it a sportier feel) and enormous P235/35R19 front and P295/30R19 rear tires. The combination ensures the power is put to pavement without melting the rubber. Pull away with alacrity and it just bolts off the line like a thoroughbred. No muss; no fuss.

Beyond the V10 engine, it’s the use of lightweight materials and a power-to-weight ratio that’s to die for that defines this car. With a curb weight of just 1,340 kilograms, each of the stampeding stallions only has to move 2.35 kilograms of supercar! Of course, the sound it makes when worked is a siren so sweet it encourages the driver to drop a cog or two, stand on the gas and listen to the 10 pistons thrash away as the exhaust note howls like some deranged banshee. In the real world — the roads around the Lamborghini factory seem to be devoid of speed limits — my licence would last five minutes … or less!

The driving sensation is mechanical in nature, but with a softer edge. It’s about as subtle as a sledgehammer in a velvet bag. Mash the gas pedal and the baby Bull gallops to 100 kilometres an hour in 3.4 seconds. Stay with it, which takes considerable nerve, and it rockets to 200 km/h in less than 10.2 seconds. My first car took longer than that to reach 100 km/h, and that was pretty darned near flat out! The Gallardo has a posted top speed of 325 km/h. Enough said.

Remarkably, the ride comfort is surprisingly good. Even over the often rough roads around the Lamborghini factory, the Gallardo remained flat and unflustered. Likewise, the garbage can-sized, two-piece rotors and anti-lock braking system eased the car to a halt.

Gripes? I have but one minor one. The automated manual box is a bit cantankerous — it shifts well enough at low speeds, but it bangs its way up through the box at full chat. The fact I could not figure out how to put it into gear (one of those dreaded “duh!” moments) did not help my love affair with it.

Did I back the Gallardo up? Not! The sightlines to the rear are more or less non-existent, although the backup camera does ease things somewhat. Ditto the side-view mirrors — they’re as much for decoration as they are for function.

By the time I wheeled back into the Lamborghini factory at the end of the test drive, neither really mattered. Nothing is going to pass this thing, so what’s behind it is a moot point. Ditto reversing into a confined space — you just find somewhere large enough to accommodate the 12-metre turning circle. Besides, the adrenalin rush makes all the rational things one normally deems so important seem rather trivial.

The cabin is decked out in a manner befitting a supercar. In the tester’s case, it was wrapped in plush black Alcantara with orange sticking and accented with carbon-fibre inserts. The bucket seats, complete with four-point racing harnesses, proved to be as comfortable as they were practical — they hug without confining.

The drive was all too brief, but the impression it left will be lasting. This is a serious car that’s not for the faint of heart. That stated, it proved to be far less temperamental when idling its way through town than I expected.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Interior Revealed

Just when we were about to say we'll see nothing new about the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 before the Geneva Auto Show (and aside for the images already shown this past week), somebody from the auto maker's PR department succeeds in proving us wrong.

So far, without revealing the model per se, Lamborghini managed to show us both the front end and the side view of its newest creation. Until now, however, we had no photo of the interior. That problem has been solved today, with the release of the first photo showing the interior, accompanied by a mugshot of the engine and a detailed look at the door.

As we repeatedly and obsessively told you the past few months, the new Lambo on the block will come packing a 6.5l V12 engine, capable of developing 700 horsepower and 690 Nm of torque. The engine and all its power is kept at bay with the help of a Graziano ISR 7-speed automatic transmission.

Being a pure-breed Lamborghini, the Aventador LP700-4 comes equipped with everything that makes a hyper car great. Words like Haldex all-wheel drive system aluminum double wishbone suspension, or carbon ceramic brakes fit the model as a well crafted glove.

And so do the performance figures: the model is capable of a naught to sixty acceleration in only 2.9 seconds, with the top speed going to as much as 217 mph (350 Km/h).

Lamborghini Shows Chassis Of Its Next Supercar

Automobili Lamborghini SpA unveiled the rolling chassis of the new V-12-powered super sports car it plans to launch at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. The revelation of the car’s carbon-fiber monocoque “tub” earlier this month.

With the rollout of the chassis we can see more of the cars’s parts and how they are put together, including racy-looking transverse coil-over springs and shock absorbers that look like they were plucked from a racing prototype at Le Mans.

You may be wondering piece of the new car Lamborghini will show next. Will we see the headlights, seats or carpeting?

While the suspense may seem a bit ridiculous, it is a way for Lamborghini to get the most mileage out of the pending introduction. Once the new car, which replaces the Murcielago, hits the market it will probably have the difficult job of holding car fans’ attention for many years before a new model comes along.

The company brings out a new flagship only about once every decade. The 1960s had the Miura, the ’70s saw the Countach emerge and — well, the Countach was around for almost 20 years before the Diablo showed up. Of course the company had a number of bouts with seemingly certain death during those years.

Now as a unit of Volkswagen AG, Lamborghini has the resources to turn out cars that are more advanced and reliable than past models. They are also taken more seriously by customers and competing exotic-car makers like Ferrari and Porsche.

We’ll see the new Lambo in less than a week. Until then, picture something like the Sesto Elemento concept car the company showed at last year’s Paris Motor Show.

Lamborghini Reveals Singapore Limited Edition Vehicle

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Lamborghini Singapore showcased its line-up of limited edition of supercars at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore. The company said that these limited edition cars are specially commissioned exclusively for the Singapore market.

The Singapore Limited Edition Lamborghini 5.2, which will are available only in two colors, black and white, can be easily recognized with the red stripes on the sides and a Merlion logo that’s labeled on the exterior of each car. The company manufactured the Singapore-themed Gallardo in partnership between the factory and its Singapore importer.

This vehicle will be powered by a 10 cylinders V90, DOHC 4 valves engine that has a displacement of 5,200cc. This engine can generate a maximum power of 550 bhp at 8000 rpm and maximum torque of 540 Nm at 6500 rpm.

The Limited Edition vehicle from Lamborghini can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.9 seconds and can achieve a maximum speed of 320 kmph.

Apart from announcing the limited edition for Singapore, Lamborghini Singapore will donate S$20,000 from the sale of each of the ten special 10th Anniversary limited edition Lamborghini cars to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund. This fund will be used for helping the less fortunate students in Singapore.

The Italian automaker also said that for Lamborghini Singapore‘s 10th anniversary celebration, the brand will continue with its line-up of Community Service Responsibility activities in 2011 in a bid to share the spirit of caring and giving.

Edo Competition LP750 Is World’s Fastest Lamborghini Murcielago

Germany’s Edo Competition is an expert when it comes to modifying ultra-rare exotics so who better to tune one of Lamborghini’s most hardcore cars ever produced--the limited edition Murcielago LP640. About one and a half years ago the tuning firm’s engineers laid hands on a LP640 and turned it into the fastest and most powerful Murcielago in the world--no small task with monsters like this one from America's Underground Racing.

Back then, the Edo Competition team managed to extract 710 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from the car’s 6.5 liter V12 engine. The end result was a top speed of 219 mph on the Papenburg high speed test track in Germany, a mark that remains unmatched to this day.

Now, with Lamborghini’s Murcielago successor, the highly anticipated ‘Aventador’ LP700-4 due out in just a week, Edo has decided to work over the Murcielago one more time. And thus, the Edo Competition LP750 was born.

The engine’s output has been increased to an impressive 750 horsepower and the torque now stands at 546 pound-feet. This is enough to see the modified Lambo hit 62 mph from rest in just 3.1 seconds, pass 124 mph in 9.7 seconds and reach 186 mph in 24.5 seconds.

However, the guys at Edo were determined to beat their old record and as such the car is now capable of a top speed of 227 mph.

Modifications include custom cylinder heads, high flow intake and exhaust systems, more aggressive camshafts, bucket tappets, and a reprogrammed ECU.

Complementing the engine mods is an optimized aerodynamics package which improves high-speed stability and adds to the car’s already aggressive look. One special feature is an adjustable lip spoiler.

Lamborghini to Reveal Flagship Supercar in Geneva

Lamborghini said it plans to unveil a flagship supercar which will carry a price tag of more than $370,000. The company said the vehicle, which will be called the Aventador, is its most powerful series production vehicle ever.

The Aventador LP 700-4 is equipped with a V12 engine that can generate a power of 700-hp. With the help of this engine, this vehicle can sprint to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.9 seconds. As reported by autonews, the vehicle is excepted to be revealed on March 1 at the Geneva Motor Show.

A person from the company who refused to reveal his identity said autonews that the Aventador, which replaces the Volkswagen AG brand’s top-of-the-line Murcielago model, is already sold for the first year of production. 2011 Edo Competition LP750

Back in 2006, Lamborghini unveiled the Murcielago LP640, a model powered by a 6.5 liter V12 engine with an output of 640 HP. Shortly after, EDO Competition unveiled the LP710 /2 based off of that same model. This Murcielago became the world’s fastest with a bump up from 640hp to 710hp, but that stay at the top was bound to be limited. Now, the German tuner has prepared an even powerful version of the Murcielago LP640.

The V12 engine found in the Lamborghini has been updated to deliver a total of 750 HP and 546 ft-lb of torque, while the sprint from 0 to 60 mph is now made in 3.1 seconds. It’s top speed goes up to an impressive 226 mph which is a considerable improvement over the LP710’s top speed of 219 mph achieved on the Papenburg high speed test track.

In the world of luxury mash-ups, we have seen the Porsche Kitchen, the Hermes Helicopter and the Versace private jet.

Now comes the Lamborghini yacht.

Fenice Milano, the auto aftermarket specialists, and Mauro Lecchie, the Italian designer known for producing cars, have teamed up to create a prototype of a yacht inspired by Lamborghini. As you can see from the pictures, the wedge-shaped hull has all the sinister-looking details we have come to expect from Lambos–the sloping nose, the angled vents, the roaring engines.

With giant twin engines and body made of wood and Kevlar, the Lambo boat “combines high performance and low power consumption,” according to its makers. The company hasn’t given out the exact engine specs or speed.

Driving a Lambo boat is likely to be far more comfy than squeezing behind the wheel of its namesake. The cockpit has two outside stern decks, a double sofa bed, a bar and entertainment center with large windows. The interior also has a bathroom and separate shower, in addition to a guest bedroom with bathroom on the bow. (Unlike another new yacht, which will spray champagne from its showers, the Lambo shower appears to be limited to water).

There is no information yet on the boat’s price or availability. But it is likely that the buyers will similar to the Lambo demographic–young, male and loaded.

Do you want to know what it’s like to drive a Lamborghini Countach QuattroValvole from the glamorous shores of Monaco to the heart of the UK? EVO magazine has just done it and posted a video of the drive on YouTube.

Harry Metcalfe of EVO says the car is very powerful but after a long drive it is apparent just how much hard work is involved in driving it. He also mentions the brakes, which he says are nothing like today’s standards. He says the brake pedal needs to be pushed fairly hard and that there is little confidence in them.

Apart from the speedo that stopped working on the way, the classic Lamborghini Countach made the journey in one piece. It uses a 5.2-litre V12 engine, with four valves per cylinder – hence the QuattroValvole name – producing 339kW of power. It’ll manage the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds too, so even to this day the retro supercar is a very quick bit of gear.

Amari Supercars is known as one of the largest pre-owned supercar dealers in the UK. They have combined tuning and lifestyle within Amari Design. Their first project is this Lamborghini Gallardo Invidia Edition.

Jay Leno today gives us a rare glimpse into the Lamborghini Section of his Big Dog Garage, where his two Miuras share space with a Countach and an Espada. Must be nice, eh? As much as we love those Italian steeds, the subject of today's visit to the garage is the awesome, flat black, fighter jet-inspired Reventón.

Specifically, we're ogling number 007 of 20 Reventón supercars that Lamborghini produced after the tremendous reception the car received after being introduced at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. All 20 of these cars were delivered to paying customers, so the only way to get one now is to go out on the open market... and, for what it's worth, 007 is for sale.

Because this car is privately owned (and not by Jay), the late night comedian and automotive enthusiast went a bit easy on it, eschewing burnouts for rolling full-throttle starts. No matter, the sound from that 650-horsepower 6.5-liter V12 engine is plenty intoxicating, and judging by how it jets away from the camera car, it's plenty fast. While the Geneva Auto Show is capturing all the buzz right now, this week the Qatar Motor Show is the place to be. Alongside several debuts from Volkswagen, Lamborghini has unveiled an all new model.

No, it’s not the highly anticipated successor to the Murcielago. Instead, Lambo unwrapped a new special edition version of the Gallardo. Called the LP560-4 Bicolore, this new version of Lambo’s best-selling model is build specifically for the Euro and Asian markets, with the same trim set to be offered in North America – but on the rear-drive LP550-2 model.

Like the Special Edition first-gen Gallardo, this model gets a gloss black roof, pillars, front air intakes and front spoiler. This contrasts with the standard paint color, which is available several hues: yellow, orange, silver, blue or white. Also outside the newest Lambo gets special titanium-finish wheels, while the interior gets black leather with contrasting stitching that matches the exterior paint.

They have released this new video of the Lamborghini Gallardo Performante filmed while testing the new Lamborghini Gallardo Performante Spyder on some very twisty mountain roads.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Performante, unveiled back in November, is actually the Superleggera version of the Spyder. It weighs 65 kg less than the standard Gallardo Spyder. It also has more power. Lamborghini Murcielago successor to debut at Geneva

Lamborghini is building the suspense with news that its Murcielago successor will debut at the Geneva Motor Show. What’s more, it will feature a motorsport-derived pushrod suspension system inspired by Formula 1.

Tipped to be called the Aventador when it arrives in March, Lamborghini’s new supercar will be powered by a 690bhp V12. But the firm has clearly worked hard to ensure that the new car has the handling to match its power.

Lamborghini has worked to reduce the weight of each of the four corners of the car, by fitting lightweight aluminium double wishbones and carbon ceramic brakes. But the suspension is truly a break from the norm.

Instead of being connected vertically to the wheel mounts, the supercar’s suspension is mounted horizontally under the windscreen at the front, and close to the engine in the rear. The suspension is connected to the wheels by a series of pushrods, which Lamborghini claims should make the supercar more responsive, yet and more predictable, even when driving at high speeds.

The new suspension also includes a lifting system for the front axle, which raises the front suspension by 40mm at the touch of a button, allowing the car to negotiate speed bumps.

Finally, the firm has confirmed that the new supercar will feature electro-hydraulic steering which has three different modes which can be changed depending on driving conditions.

Lamborghini stun Porsche for pole in 24H Dubai

Lamborghini caused a major upset in qualifying yesterday to take pole position for the Dunlop 24H Dubai 2011 edition which gets underway at 2pm tomorrow.

Peter Kox, Marc Hayek, Nico Pronk and Bernhard Muller in the Blancpain Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 GT3 set the Dubai Autodrome alight on their way to claiming the pole at Dubai Autodrome last evening.

They will start at the front of an 87-car grid after they overcame a strong Porsche and Mercedes challenge.

The Fabien Giroix-led Gulf Team First Lamborghini LP560 returned the best times among the UAE-based teams.

Giroix will share the next 24 hours at the wheel with Frederic Fatien, Roald Goethe and Mike Wainwright.

Starting behind the two Lamborghini’s, third fastest in qualifying was the Tomas Enge-led Mosler MT900 GT3. Fastest of the Porsche Brigade was MRS Team PZ Aschaffenburg, who will start their Porsche GTR 997R from fourth on the grid.

Heading up the third row, fifth fastest in qualifying will be the tolimit Arabia Porsche 911 GT3R driven by Team Abu Dhabi ace Khaled Al Qubaisi who will take turn at the wheel with Sascha Maasen, Jeroen Bleekemolen and Sean Edwards.

Al Qubaisi will start the race as the highest-placed Emirati driver on the grid.

He said: “I am part of a very strong line-up of drivers. We are heading for the podium.”

Sixth fastest was the Need for Speed BMW spearheaded by August Farfus, ahead of Heico Motorsport Mercedes with Bernd Schneider heading the line-up of drivers.

Detroit 2011: more info about the Lamborghini 834 a.k.a. Aventador

Absent at Detroit's NAIAS, Lamborghini still managed to draw attention. CEO Stephan Winkelmann and head of R&D Maurizio Reggiani spoke briefly about the Murciélago's successor during a special conference.

The car will be named 834 and not Aventador as many online rumours have previously suggested. It will have all the traditional modern Lamborghini cues, including all-wheel drive, scissor doors and prominent air intakes.

The new 6.5-litre V12 engine will be 18-percent more powerful while emitting 20 percent less CO2. It produces 700 horsepower at 8,450 rpm and 509 pounds-foot of torque at 5,500 rpm.

As announced in November of 2010, the V12 will be mated to a seven-speed, single-clutch ISR transmission featuring five shift modes – Auto, Auto Strada, Strada, Sport and Corsa. The latter will allow shift times in 50 milliseconds (Formula 1 is about 40 ms).

Lamborghini is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013 with the launch of its 2013 model.

Lamborghini is known to launch new models on all its anniversary dates like it did on the 25th anniversary in 1988 with the launch of a special edition Countach. During its 30th anniversary date in 1993 the company launched the Diablo SE30. The Murcielago model was its present for its followers and fans during its 40th anniversary. Grigio Antares is usually a color reserved for the Murcielago, but over in San Diego, California, Symbolic Motor Car Company has just sold a 2009 Gallardo LP560-4 dressed to the nines in this unique color. The car looks sensational and even comes equipped with passport radar, tinted tail lights, tinted side markers, and apparently much more not listed.

Forget the yellow or green exterior paint colors some choose for the Gallardo, this gray paint makes it look better than any other options Lamborghini may have to offer. Apparently the owner chose this color as a way to express his personality without disrupting Lamborghini’s design.

As a reminder, the Gallardo LP560-4 is powered by the new 5.2 liter V10 engine with an output of 560 PS (412 kW) at 8000 rpm. The increase of 40 PS compared with that of the previous Gallardo, and the approximate 20 kilogram reduction in weight, improves the power weight ratio to 2.5 kilograms per PS (hp) and thus enhances performance. Lamborghini has been pretty busy, with the Italians developing a successor for the Murcielago, a brand new engine & transmission, the Sesto Elemento concept and other goodies.

However, it seems that the company just can’t get enough new developments. Maybe the Italians are just crazy for positive public feedback or maybe they’ve found a new business pathway that allows them to offer one new release after another - it doesn’t matter, we’re just happy to get more Lambo creations.

Various media sources report that the automotive producer is preparing something special for 2013, when the company will celebrate its 50th anniversary. It seems that the company won’t just stick to marketing moves and champagne bottles, being determined to offer us a new beast.

Considering that we are talking a bout half a century of activity, this should be the Bull’s Raging party, so we are expecting an extreme four-wheeled creation. Certain sources indicate that we’ll get a road-legal incarnation of the Sesto Elemento concept, but it’s still to early to tell - of course, such a car would be more than enough to make us jump for joy. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: the market really needs supercars that know what the true meaning of the word “lightweight” is and the 999 kg concept is the perfect example.

Well, it turned out to be true, as the German dealer Auto Salon Singen lists the Sesto Elemento 1 of 10 with 90 km on the clock for sale. The price? Well since you are asking, it is 2.261.900 EUR! The actual price of the car is €1.9 million but you have to pay €361,000 VAT on it.

All of a sudden the Reventon seems like a bargain!

The Sesto Elemento is a super lightweight car made almost entirely out of carbon fiber and powered by a 570 hp 540 Nm V10 engine which takes it from zero to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. But who cares really, all it matters with this car is exclusivity. Actually they could sell it at a higher price than this if they’d put it on auction.

The international automotive press received the first informations about the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the successor of the Murcielago LP640-4. Here are the first scanned pictures of a confidential brochure, brochure that should have landed in the Lamborghini dealerships.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 will weigh-in 1,575 kg, 230 kg less than the Murcielago LP640-4. The new Aventador will be fitted a 6.5-liter V12 engine, a unit capable of developing a total power of 700 HP and 690 Nm of torque. The average fuel consumption is of 17/100 km, and the emissions are of 398 g CO2/km.

The 0-100 kph sprint is made in 2.9 and the top speed of Lamborghini LP700 is of 350 kph. Anderson Germany is continueing its spree of newly tuned models with at least one introduction per month. The latest addition is this Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 White Edition.

Performance kit takes the horsepower from 560 to 600hp. This is done with a series of modifications that include the use of software optimization and the addition of a modified air filter and a sport exhaust system with additional Rennkats. The tuning package includes a remote-controlled valve adjusting system that lets driver opt from three different levels of noise and also reduces approximately 22kg in weight.

A sport suspension module combined with a precise undercarriage changes the driving dynamics. Three-piece, shiny black rims – each with a white painted deep dish – in dimensions of 9×20 inch with 245/30-20 tires in front and 12.5×20 inch with 325/25-20 rear provide adequate adherence with the asphalt surface.

Underground Racing is an American tuning firm based just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina that specializes in twin-turbocharging kits for Italian exotica, namely Lamborghini’s Gallardo and Murcielago supercars.

The firm has a reputation for building some of the most awesome power-up kits in the business, like this twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, which actually spat out fire during a high-speed run. Sadly, that reputation turned slightly sour following an incident involving one its highly modified Gallardos.

The car, which develops upwards of 2,000 horsepower and is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 250 mph, suffered a crash while traveling at more than 200 mph. Fortunately the driver was unhurt and walked away from the crash--proof that modern safety equipment isn't only necessary, it's damn effective. You can see a video of the crash here.

To help turnaround its tarnished image, Underground Racing is working on a new Gallardo project, and this time it’s using the highly exclusive Gallardo Nera as its blank canvas. You may recall that the Nera was a special edition Gallardo built in a production run of just 185 cars back in 2007.

The fact that Bucharest has more luxury cars that the country’s development would support is a wonder for many foreigners who visit the city. Lamborghini Estoque Will Be Produced After All

Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann finally confessed to Autocar that he prefers to make a four-door sedan rather than a SUV. He says that they were baffled by the positive feedback they received from their Estoque Concept. He also says it can attract new buyers to the brand. If you do the math, you have to conclude the Estoque is heading into production!

But don’t expect it to arrive anytime soon. Lamborghini has been very relaxed regarding the Estoque from the beginning. The car was first introduced in 2008, then during the credit crunch it was totally canned, and now it’s back on again. And it’s not fully confirmed yet. But from every aspect you look at it, it just makes complete sense for Lambo to build it. So just do it!

"We have opportunities outside the supercar business, and we showed that with Estoque,” said Winkelmann. “It had a more enthusiastic response than we had expected. It was the right time to see if the brand could go outside of supercars. Even now, people are still emailing me about us making the Estoque.

“We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door. And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn’t exist in our price segment, and it’s not a real luxury car.”

Winkelmann said a four-door in the mould of the Estoque could attract new buyers to Lamborghini by offering a more practical proposition than the company’s two-seaters. “There are more opportunities in the segment of four-doors,” he said. “If we are going to offer a third model, it could be a ‘first’ car, bringing people to our brand.”

The latest Gallardo is essentially a rag-top version of the Superleggera coupe that trumped the standard model’s performance with light carbon-fiber body parts and more power. Lamborghini has been using lots of carbon lately not only to save weight, but to make its cars stiff — a trait that leads to sharper handling. Since a roadster’s lack of a roof compromises stiffness, the use of carbon has the potential to give open-top cars rigidity similar to that of hardtop models.

“The LP 570-4 Spyder Performante represents the next evolution in the Gallardo model range and is the most extreme open-top vehicle in its class,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s president and CEO.

The company says carbon fiber parts helped cut the Spyder Performante’s weight by 143 pounds compared with its predecessor, the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder. The new model’s 5.2-liter V10 engine generates 570 horsepower — 10 more than the previous roadster — and helps the Performante sprint from 0-62 mph (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.9 seconds. Lambo registers Aventador name

Lamborghini's replacement for the Murciélago hypercar will be named Aventador, according to reports.

The firm has registered the Aventador name with the US trademark office, raising speculation that the car, set for a Geneva motor show 2011 launch, will take that name for production.

Lamborghini has a tradition of naming its cars after Spanish bulls; Aventador would fit that brief. There has also been previous speculation that the car may take the Jota name for production, but no patent application has been filed for that name.

The US trademark office's website explains coverage will include the use of the Aventador name on vehicles, clothing, footwear, games and playthings among other applications.

Whatever the car ends up being called, it will be powered by an all-new 6.5-litre V12 engine mated to a new single-clutch automated manual gearbox. The V12 has 59bhp more than the outgoing unit, at 691bhp. There’s more torque, too - a peak of 509lb ft - and it’s available 500rpm further down the rev range, at 5500rpm.

The Sesto Elemento was first introduced at the Paris Motor Show where it was considered one of the stars of the show earning rave reviews from the motoring press and the public alike, prompting Lamborghini into action.

Let me tell you, when you foolishly decide to drive your cars way past the speed limit in Italy, this is one police car that you don’t want to be chasing you. Trust us, unless you have a rocket of a supercar in your hands, you’re not going to be able to last in a car chase.

It’s not often that we get to see a Lamborghini police car, although there are a number of them in police departments all over the world. This particular one, though, is a Gallardo LP560-4, one of two Lamborghinis that were donated to the Italian police by the supercar maker. Moreover, this is the only one left of the two as the other one suffered a pretty serious car crash about a year ago.

So as you can see, the mere sight of the car draws either pained expressions of fear if it’s chasing you down the highway or wide-eyed glee if you get a chance to see it stretch its legs in a racetrack like Monza.

Lamborghini marked the end of the line today for its Murciélago, a big, brutal, 12-cylinder sports car that nearly a decade ago began a successful run for the Italian exotic-car maker under Volkswagen ownership.

Perhaps most striking about the car is that most of the superlatives it represented when new seem almost quaint today. The original car’s 571 horsepower was outrageous in 2002 and put the Murcielago on a high-performance pedestal. Today Chevy Corvettes, Cadillacs and Nissans are all in the same neighborhood. Its roughly three-and-a-half second zero-to-60 run is still pretty quick, but the Lambo has a lot more company in that bracket now.

Sure, the company has been tweaking the car almost continuously over the years and the last model, an LP 670-4 Superveloce, is a bit faster and more refined than the first. But still, supercars don’t seem as super, when compared with everyday models, as they used to. Seriously –if that grandmother in the turbocharged Subaru gets the jump on you at the next traffic light, you may as well give up.

Despite all that, the Murcielago still ranks as my favorite test drive — ever. It was March , 2002, I had a metallic yellow test car for the weekend and a route mapped out to the Berkshires — a round trip just over 300 miles.

The out-and-back drive was a blast, whether on the highway or twisting back roads. Listening to the V-12 engine’s bellowing exhaust sound and watching other drivers reactions was as much fun as the driving itself. Our test car had a six-speed manual transmission with a heavily sprung clutch and a metal gate that helped guide the lever into the right gear. The result of the latter was a mechanical “clank” with shifts. It contributed to an overall feeling – a rewarding one — of working inside a machine.

Supercars nowadays usually have “paddle”-style hand-controls for shifting gears and no clutch pedal at all. They are similar to shifters found in many racing cars, but I still find them wimpy. For me the original Murcielago was the last of the alpha-male exotic cars.

Even though the last Murcielago, number 4099, rolled out of the factory on May 11, the company celebrated the occasion today with an exhibition of the most important 12-cylinder cars of Lamborghini’s history and a parade in its hometown of Sant’Agata Bolognese. Look for a successor next year.

Details emerge on Lamborghini’s 700 hp Murcielago successor

Lamborghini has reportedly shown a select group of customers its forthcoming Murcielago successor. The automaker is said to have hosted an event in Singapore, the first in a series of exclusive customer previews around the world.

The news comes from a longtime member of the FerrariChat online community. The information is believed to be genuine, but we’re unable to independently verify any of the details.

CEO Stephen Winkelmann was on hand for the presentation, according to the source. The car was described simply as the LP700-4, following the naming structure of the Gallardo and Murcielago lines. The car is rumored to be called Jota, but that name wasn’t used during the presentation. “Jota LP700-4″ seems like a distinct possibility.

As the name implies, the car is said to have 700 horsepower and all-wheel-drive. The source also indicated the LP-700 will have a 6.5-liter V12 and a seven-speed single-clutch automated manual capable of delivering 50-ms shifts.

0-62 mph is said to take just 2.9 seconds, and top speed is estimated at 219 mph.

The entire car is said to be made of carbon fiber, making it 70 percent stiffer and 500 lbs lighter than the Murcielago. But carbon fiber isn’t the only F1-inspired goodness — the car also has F1-based suspension at the rear, according to the source.

A debut is expected at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

It may not be an all out Italian grudge-fest between the 599 GTB and the Murcielago LP640, but it’s a pretty sweet cross-country rivalry just the same. In a test by Road & Track, drivers took the 570-hp 4.5-liter V8-powered 458 Italia and the 562-hp V10-powered Gallardo Superleggera head to head. In case you think that either has a clear advantage, the numbers argue against it. In addition to their similar output figures, the cars have a weight difference of a mere 20 lbs., produce the same 398 lb-ft of torque and both have listed top speeds of 202 mph.

Lamborghini’s upcoming Murcielago’ s photos and videos are floating on the net these days. We have been able to get hold of some spy pictures along with the video of the super sports vehicle. The new hyper-car from Sant’Agata’ as suggested by some source will be named Jota. However, no official name has yet been announced for the car. The hyper-car is planned to have its debut next year at Geneva Salon.

Looking at the spy photographs and the videos you would be able to interpret that the sports car manufacturer, Lamborghini, is not likely to make any changes in the ‘wedgy’ styling. This ‘ Wedgy’ styling language, in fact, has become the hallmark of the automaker’s supercars right since the debut of the Countach. Notably Lamborghini’s Countach was first formally introduced in 1970s.

The Murcielago or Jota, the new hyper-car, from the Italian automaker is the first production model. This production edition of the car uses lightweight carbon fiber materials which were showcased by Lamborghini at the Paris Motor Show in the Sesto Elemento concept car model. Experts claim that other Lambos in the range are likely to weigh as much as 150kg or 330 pounds lesser than the upcoming Murcielago.

While experts are not clear about the extent to which Lamborghini can go lighter but they claim that the super sports car, which is the Italian firm’s flagship supercar, will be powered by a more powerful V12 engine. While everyone expected great things from Lamborghini at the recent Paris Auto Show, the Italian company only brought the Sesto Elemento Concept leaving all of us a little disappointed in the Italian automaker. That disappointment, however, may be short lived as Lamborghini is rumored to be bringing out a Performance version of the Gallardo LP570-4 in March 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show. If you remember the LP570-4 Superleggera Spyder that was caught testing at Nurburgring, then you’ve already caught a glimpse of the future vehicle.

The LP570-4 Performance will be distinguished by two black stripes covering the entire body, with the Performance name on the side. There will also be a glass-made engine hood borrowed from the Concept S and wheels from the LP570-4 Gallardo Superleggera.

Regarding its numbers, this performance version will be 67 lbs lighter than the LP560-4 Spyder and it will deliver 570 HP with a top speed of 201 mph. Prices will start at € 182.900.

We don’t really know if we should buy into this rumor, though. Lamborghini is said to be debuting the "Jota", or whatever it’s name is going to be, at the same Geneva show and two huge cars at one show might be overkill in Lamborghini’s dollar sign eyes.

Lamborghini says it is previewing “the future of the company” with its Paris Motor Show concept car, called Sesto Elemento. The show car is named after the symbol for carbon in the periodic table – the sixth element – and has a power-to-weight ratio similar to that of a superbike. It has been created with help from aircraft industry giant Boeing.
The Sesto Elemento is constructed largely from a brand-new material referred to by Lamborghini as “forged carbon.” This dramatic-looking machine is a clear indication of what the next Gallardo might look like when it appears in two years' time, and what it will be made of.

At just 2,220lbs, the car is extraordinarily light, considering that it's also four-wheel drive and contains the potent running gear from the current Gallardo Superleggera. This gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 570hp per ton; by comparison, the rear-drive Ferrari 458 Italia has 370hp per ton.

As a result, the Sesto Elemento boasts the kind of performance that only superbike riders and Bugatti Veyron owners will be familiar with. Lamborghini quotes a 0-62mph time of just 2.5sec, with a top speed the same as that of the Superleggera.

The standing quarter-mile is rumored to be below the magic 10-second barrier, putting the car clear of even the mighty Veyron. Yet because the Sesto Elemento is a third of a ton lighter than the Superleggera, it's also more economical and cleaner.

“Every future Lamborghini will be touched by the spirit of the Sesto Elemento,” said Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann. This is a tacit admission that each new model from the supercar maker will make extensive use of forged carbon – although not, apparently, the next Murciélago replacement, because this car's development is already too far down the line to fully benefit from the new material.

Lamborghini has created forged carbon in conjunction with Boeing and the University of Washington. It costs roughly a third of the price of regular carbon fiber, but is the same weight and is almost as stiff. It's manufactured in-house by Lamborghini at a new purpose-built plant, and is made by first vacuum packing, then pressing a material similar to carbon beneath an 80-ton load.

The entire process takes less than 10 minutes and negates the need for baking at high temperatures for long periods of time – the method used to cure traditional resin-based carbon fiber. And because forged carbon costs so much less time and money to produce than regular carbon fiber, Lamborghini says it has been able to think “right outside the normal rules of car design” when it comes to the car's shape and structure.

The Sesto's tub is made from the new material, along with its doors, roof, hood, bumpers, major suspension components and virtually its entire interior, including the seats and dash.

“The structure of this car is at the center of its function,” says engineering chief Maurizio Reggiani. “It represents a revolutionary way of building a car. This method is a true breakthrough, and we are extremely excited about what it means for our future.”

Lamborghini sales picking up in China

Shanghai October 11 (Gasgoo.com) China has surpassed U.S. to become Lamborghini's second largest market, where the Italian luxury sports-car maker is expected to sell around 200 Lamborghini cars this year, its CEO Stephen Winkelmann at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, Guangzhou Daily reported Monday.

The Chinese market grows extremely fast, but you can barely foresee when Lamborghini's sales in the country will outpace the U.S., Stephen Winkelmann said, adding that about 200 Lamborghini cars are likely to be sold in China this year while sales in the U.S. market is estimated to be 30% higher than China.

He also said that even though the U.S. market has been shrinking these years and on the contrary, China is advancing forward all the time, he still believes the U.S. market has more growth potential, stressing that how to tap the potential is crucially important.

Subtlety has never been Lamborghini's claim to fame. But the Sesto Elemento concept unveiled at the Paris auto show lifts the Italian automaker's look of lethal aggression to new heights.

Hatchet-like, the Sesto Elemento is cut like a giant wedge with recurring triangular themes repeated throughout the design. Deep sidelines begin at the front wheel arches, culminating in an abrupt slice at the bulging rear haunches.

Its name is Italian, meaning "sixth element" and is derived from science's periodic table where the sixth element is carbon. The Sesto Elemento is a showcase of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) technology, Lamborghini being the world's first manufacturer to master this process.

Carbon-fibre panels have become almost commonplace. But the Sesto Elemento's entire front frame, roof and floor, exterior panels, major suspension components, and rims are made with carbon fibre. It's also used extensively throughout the interior, a forged composite tub fixed to the carbon-fibre monocoque. The result is an ultra-low curb weight of just 999 kg, including the V10 powertrain. With an output of 570 hp, the full- time all-wheel drive Sesto Elemento has an astounding power-to-weight ratio, sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds… yet delivers reasonable fuel consumption due to its light weight.

Spyshots: 2012 Lamborghini Jota at Nürburgring

The 2012 Lamborghini Jota aka codename LB715-5 has been spotted ones again. This time during tests at the Nürburgring. The Murcielago replacement is destinded to be revealed at the Geneva Auto Salon in March 2011.

The video shown below gives a first look at some new features and the sound of the engine. Lamborghini-addicts should have a closer look at the rear end of the vehicle. You will spot two special flaps which are part of a wing covering the rear end automatically revealing itself at higher speeds. The wing is located just above the two rear lights. It is unknown if it acts like an airbrake.

Secondly, there are two air ducts located next to the engine hood, just above the two rear tyres. Inside the video you will see both systems opening and closing itself. The air ducts are located within the body work, not like the Murcielago just behind the side windows. It definitely improves the lines of the vehicle and it seems that Italians will stuck to the concept of the current Murcielago.

Rumours suggest a top speed of 360km/h (225mph), a four-wheel drive system and seven-speed double-clutch transmission. Jota’s engine will be a +700bhp strong V12. The base price is expected to start at € 275,000.

Two German Mechanics Crash Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV Brought For An Oil Change

Two German mechanics didn’t resist the temptation to test the Murcielago model brought to service by a customer that only needed an oil change. The two guys ended with the Murcielago on a field.

Leaving your car on the hands of the mechanics in service to change the oil, doesn’t necessary mean that it’s on good hands. Especially when the car is a Lamborghini Murcielago and is one of the sportiest editions designed by the Italians.

Two mechanics working for a service in Germany, couldn’t resist not to take the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 Superveloce to a spin. The supercar belonged to a customer that brought it for an oil change. The character and the power hidden under the hood was a lot more than the two brave guys expected, as the guys ended with the car on the field after too much adrenaline flown through their veins.

According to the German press, the damages the two mechanics did, raise to 400,000 euros. In addition, the guys ended the day in hospital, where the doctors discovered pretty bad injuries.

So, from now on you’d better think twice when you leave your supercar at the dealership as the guys working there might take it for a spin and end up like the two characters of our story.

The Sesto element Concept from Lamborghini is meant to represent the sixth element in the periodic table and that is occupied by the element carbon. The total weight of the concept is 999 kg which translates into a healthy 2,202 lb. This weight is inclusive of the engine unit which is a V10 and also the all wheel drive transmission. The V10 delivers 570 hp and accelerates the car from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds which is the same for the Gallardo Superleggera. The top speed of the concept is well over 300 kmph or 200 mph.

The car is supposed to have perfect aerodynamics as per the cars maker. The ribs up front, two of them which helps to improve the stiffness of the component as well as in guiding the cool air directly to the radiator which is located behind them and to the brakes as well. Right beneath the front windscreen there are two red color triangular shaped openings. It is through these openings that the cool air is flowing.

For the rims it is made up of complete carbon fiber and incorporates a five spoke design. The interior of the car is also done up to a very minimal standard. Ergonomics has been attended to in the design of the steering wheel which can be adjusted both for height and reach. The pedals also can be adjusted longitudinally. There are just three switches embedded in the central console. These are piezoelectric ones and are to start the engine, throw the car into reveres gear and the third to switch on the lights.

A rare 1969 Lamborghini Islero GTS (above) driven by Roger Moore in the cult 1970 flick The Man Who Haunted Himself, his last movie before taking up the role of James Bond, has been added to the lineup at RM Auctions' upcoming Automobiles of London sale next month. Estimated to fetch up to $215,000, the highly-coveted car would be quite a collector's catch even without the celebrity provenance. One of 100 Islero GT "S" models and one of only five RHD examples ever built, the car is considered by many to be a hidden gem. Ferruccio Lamborghini himself drove an Islero. Moore was recently reunited with the car in London where he autographed the sun visor, the original driver's handbook and a special plaque. These come with the car, along with an impressive collection of documents, including the original factory invoice, a photographic record of the recent total restoration and a letter from Valentino Balboni, the legendary Lamborghini test driver, confirming this is the actual movie car.

Rumours: Lamborghini LP83X To Show At Geneva Motor Show

Rumours are doing the rounds at Teamspeed and Luxury4Play forums from people who claim to have actually seen the Murciélago replacement at dealer previews. There’s also a number of important pieces of information being talked about, including the likelihood that the replacement, codenamed LP83X, will show at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 instead of next week’s Paris Motor Show.

To start with, rumours are suggesting that fourty completed cars are standing at a Lamborghini facility waiting for the official unveil. A name hasn’t been chosen yet, the car is still being called the LP83X internally. It should see a Spring/Summer 2011 release if everything goes to plan.

Features of the car include a new Digital Dash Instrumentation, Push Rod Suspension and Seven-speed transmission with six settings. LED Headlights, 20 inch wheels, similar headroom to the R8 and five new colors are also being rumoured for inclusion in Lamborghini’s new range-topping supercar. Rumours are also suggesting that this car won’t feature a six-speed manual gearbox option.

Further speculation from Italian magazine Quattroruote suggests that the final figure for the LP83X’s 6.5 liter V12 will be 770hp @ 9,000rpm, with no direct injection. Add a 1500kg weight to this and you get a pretty nippy supercar!

So what will we see at Paris? Well, the magazine states that a prototype will be put on public display. It will be called the “sesto elemento” or “the sixth element”. Perhaps this is what we see in Lamborghini’s teaser images?

A new 23 million dollar facility is apparently being created for production of this car.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Blancpain Edition

We can now reveal that Lamborghini will release the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition tomorrow at the seasons close of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo at the “Piero Taruffi” circuit, Vallelunga. The road-legal Blancpain Edition celebrates the two-year relationship between the Italian supercar brand and the watchmaker.

Modifications to the LP570-4 Superleggera are aimed at placing a Gallardo onto public roads that closely resembles the Blancpain Super Trofeo racers we see on track. There’s a new larger spoiler and an engine lid that optimizes ventilation; Skorpius wheels with yellow-painted brake calipers and discs made from carbon-ceramic composites are also featured.

Carbon fiber has been used to make external components such as the diffuser and mirror casings. The exterior receives a matte black finish to complement these touches.

Lamborghini Will Only Show One New Concept in Paris

Rumors, rumors, rumors. The latest indicate that Lamborghini won’t be showing two new models in Paris as speculated earlier this week, but will only show one concept. In other words, there won’t be a Jota unveil.

The report comes from Autoguide, which states that the concept will be a “technology demonstrator,” a description that appears to be in line with Lamborghini’s own teaser statements that the new car will move the Lamborghini brand in a new direction focused on lower weights, increased handling and quicker acceleration.

So, for now, we’re disappointed that a Jota launch is looking unlikely. But, again, it’s just the latest rumor floating around; we won’t know for sure until next week.

With the holiday season approaching, we’re faced with that annual dilemma: what to buy the Lamborghini owner who has everything?

The German-made gardening tools are part of a licensing deal between the automaker and the German company IKRA Mogatec, which makes high-end gardening equipment.

Tonino Lamborghini, the son of Ferruccio Lamborghini, founder of Automobili Lamborghini, has previously created items like watches and golf carts, all sporting his family name. His company, Lamborghini Products, is based in Boca Raton, Fla.

The raging-bull motif is on each of the tools—no specs on horsepower or torque, although the chainsaw does have a 2,400-watt motor and automatic chain lubrication, which I guess is something like an oil sump. The saw costs a not-unreasonable $200.

As the Paris Auto Show is almost here, automotive producers from around the world are fighting for our attention, offering us previews of what they have prepared for the event.

One of the names that has certainly managed to reach the podium of the anticipation race in our minds is Lamborghini. The Italian supercar producer has released not one or two, but three teasers for the automotive Batman suit it will unveil in Paris.

Now, we have the real world (the Nurburgring is the definition of the real world for us) proof that Lambo is working hard to develop a successor for the epic Murcielago. The model is expected to make it to the Paris Auto Show.Our team of spy machine gunners have caught the Lambatmobile (OK, it’s actually called Jota by unofficial sources) while it was performing a test session on the ‘Ring.

The car is wearing a complex black cape, so most of the details are hidden. However, we are able to see aggressive features, such as massive lateral air intakes and a complex bat wing at the back. The camouflage elements are actually larger than the vehicle itself.

The wave of rumors connected to the Jota that has hit the web indicates that the vehicle’s V12 powerplant will come with over 700 hp. This kind of power level alone is enough to make a car blow your mind, but when we consider that the vehicle will make extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum, things go to the stratosphere of the automotive performance.

1971 Lamborghini Miura SV Jota Goes Under the Hammer

October 27 will be a special day for the true automotive connoisseurs with enough money on their hands to roam auction houses across the globe. On that date, most of them will be probably attending the Automobiles of London auction, organized by RM, so that they may have a chance to snatch a very special item: a 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV Jota.

For those who are not all that connoisseur, we think it would be enough to say the model is only one of the five built by Lamborghini (chassis no. 4892 ) to honor the creation of test driver Bob Wallace, the Miura Privata. A trait which makes it very, very rare and very, very expensive.

RM Auctions says the model has been through a “no-expense-spared restoration,” performed by specialist Gary Bobileff. This trait too adds to the price of the model, which is expected and hoped to close at around 800,000-1,100,000 GBP ($1,25 million - $1,7 million/EUR980,000 – EUR1.3 million).

The fourth edition of the Automobiles of London auction will not be, of course, all about the rare Jota. The event will be packed with rare, unique and special vehicles, including James Bond’s actual Aston Martin DB5.

That is the one driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball, the single model remaining of the only two ever built. This car is much more expensive than the rare Jota, with the auction house hoping to get over 3.5 million GBP ($5 million, EUR3.93 million).

The Murcielago’s future replacement went testing again. This time, the Lamborghini
Jota was out on the German autobahn, and, as usual, there was a lucky guy hanging out to catch it and bring us beautiful footage of the sports car
. We’ve already seen the first teaser image of the future supercar, but having a video will entertain us for that much longer until the Paris Auto Show where we hope we’ll get the car’s official details.

It’s already been reported that the Jota will be shorter and weigh about 300lbs. less than the Murcielago. It will be built on a new carbon-fiber tub and will use as much aluminum and carbon fiber
as possible to reduce weight. The Jota will hit a top speed of 230mph and will sit on new 21" wheels over upgraded Brembo
carbon-ceramic brakes. It will also come with Audi’s torque vectoring technology which offers even better handling.

Lamborghini Reventon gas powered RC car

Let’s face it; there aren’t many people in the world that can afford the Reventon supercar. Not to mention the fact that it is limited to only 20 units. So, in the case that you don’t have an extra $1,200,000 in your pocket to spend or you can’t get on the super deluxe, ultra special list to purchase the Reventon, Lamborghini is offering you the possibility to get an officially licensed RC version, scale 1:10. And what Lamborghini RC car would be complete without its own limited number? In true special edition style, the mini model will only get 65 units.

The RC car was built by De Agostini and has more features than some production models: a two-stroke 3cc petrol engine, a two-speed transmission, and permanent four-wheel drive. For "optimum road holding", designers installed an independent suspension, hydraulic shocks, and disc brakes.

Of course, it won’t develop a total of 650 HP and won’t hit a top speed of 211 mph, but it will make your dream of getting your hands on a Lamborghini Reventon come to life, in a mini way. If only they would let us know how much it costs.

Spyshots: Lamborghini LP570-4 Superleggera Spyder

Recent spyshots of a mysterious Gallardo test mule have been linked with a potential project to produce a spyder version of the LP570-4 Superleggera. Whilst Lamborghini are yet to produce a drop-top version of any of its hardcore variants, rumours suggest that the car could rival the 430 Scuderia 16M if it is produced.

The pictures show a car with the same wheels, diffuser, and rear bumper as the Superleggera model. Aside from the speculation that the photos are raising, there is no real information on the car. The rumours would not feel entirely out-of-place after being told that Lamborghini are seriously considering adding the Estoque to their model range.

Lamborghini considering producing Estoque sedan to attract more customers

Lamborghini’s revenues fell to 152.9 million euros ($199.9 million USD) in the first half of 2010 when it sold 674 vehicles – down 18 percent. The maker of the $450,000 Murcielago SuperVeloce supercars says that it is now considering adding a four-door sedan to its lineup to attract more customers amid declining sales.

“A third model would fit Lamborghini very well,” Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann, 45, said in an interview with Bloomberg. “A four- door car would be a very feasible approach.”

The model would most likely be based on the Lamborghini Estoque Concept, which made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. A sedan would give the brand a chance to compete with the Maserati Quattroporte and the Aston Martin Rapide. It would also compete with other Volkswagen Group brand vehicles such as the Audi A7 Sportback and the Porsche Panamera.

Lamborghini had originally planned to put the Estoque into production by 2011. Lamborghini was considering sharing platforms with Porsche’s Panamera and Audi’s A7. Powertrain choices were to include the 5.2L V10 from the Gallardo LP560-4, a V8 diesel or a V8 gasoline mated to a hybrid system.

Automobili Lamborghini SpA, maker of the $450,000 Murcielago SuperVeloce sports car, would consider adding a four-door sedan to its portfolio of two-seater models to attract customers amid declining sales.

“A third model would fit Lamborghini very well,” Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann, 45, said in an interview at the carmaker’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters. “A four- door car would be a very feasible approach.”

Building a four-door sports car would allow Lamborghini to compete against Maserati SpA’s Quattroporte and Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd.’s Rapide. The Volkswagen AG division has been unable to capitalize this year on a recovering market for super- luxury autos, or vehicles costing more than $200,000, with first-half sales of 674 cars, down 18 percent from a year ago.

Any addition to the Gallardo and Murcielago model lines must yield “a real leap” in deliveries, Winkelmann said, adding there isn’t a plan or decision on a third model.

Sales in the U.S., the largest market for the most expensive cars, may jump 70 percent for the $200,000 to $400,000 category this year after falling 37 percent in 2009, according to researcher IHS Automotive. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the biggest luxury-car maker, this week posted record first-half sales of 970 autos at the Rolls-Royce unit because of demand for the four-door Ghost.

‘Completely New’

Luxury-car manufacturers may sell 19 percent more vehicles priced above $400,000 in the U.S. in 2010, IHS Automotive estimates showed.

“I’d definitely be excited to see a Lamborghini sedan, that would be something completely new,” said Dieter Niederfriniger, co-owner of Austrian metal-forming company Alpewa GmbH, who bought his first Gallardo in 2004 and last year spent 380,000 euros ($500,000) on a Murcielago SuperVeloce. “Every time I look at that beauty I fall in love with it. It’s truly irresistible.”

Lamborghini, while never producing a sedan, built a four- seat coupe 40 years ago called the Espada that it discontinued in 1978. Winkelmann showed a sedan called the Estoque in 2008, which he never built. Any Lamborghini four-door model could rival the Panamera built by Porsche AG, which is currently merging with Volkswagen.

“Lamborghini has the ability to be extended to a third model,” said Jim Hall, an analyst with consulting firm 2953 Analytics Inc. in Birmingham, Michigan. “The question is can they do it in such a way that it’s free and clear of anything else from the top part of VW group. I think it’s possible.”

Bentley, Bugatti

Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech, who was then VW CEO, purchased Lamborghini in 1998 along with Bugatti and Bentley to create a stable of ultra-luxury carmakers. Adding another model line would keep with Lamborghini’s strategy of expanding the sports-car manufacturer with a new auto every year. Annual sales have increased tenfold since VW’s purchase.

VW added the Gallardo model line in 2003 to the Murcielago. The Italian division also complements its lineup by building limited-edition variants such as the 2006 Miura concept car and the 1.1 million-euro Reventon Roadster offered last year, its costliest model to date.

“Lamborghini’s role within the VW structure is much more symbolic than anything else,” said Stefan Bratzel, director of the Center of Automotive at the University of Applied Sciences in Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany. “The message from Dr. Piech is VW is solidly presented in the super-car segment and its technology expertise isn’t strictly confined to volume brands.”

Winkelmann, who has run Volkswagen’s top-end unit since 2005, reported the carmaker’s biggest pretax profit in 2008 of 60 million euros. A year later, Lamborghini posted a pretax loss of 35 million euros as sales plunged 38 percent after the financial crisis.

Raging Bull

Winkelmann, born to German parents in Berlin and raised in Rome, spent more than ten years working at Fiat SpA, which owns Maserati and Ferrari, before he was hired to run Lamborghini by Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn, then head of the Audi unit.

Based in a small town of about 7,000 near Italy’s northern city of Bologna, Lamborghini’s only factory is hidden behind a dark all-glass building, reflecting the black color of the carmaker’s raging bull logo. Employing about 800 workers, the facilities include a showroom, executive offices and a two-story museum that was opened in 2001. Lamborghini factory workers assemble vehicles by hand from bodies crafted at Audi.

“Lamborghini is the undisputed icon brand within VW group,” said Sascha Heiden, a Frankfurt-based analyst at IHS Automotive. “It’s kind of indispensable to have for a global player like VW to round off its multi-brand range.”

Carbon Fiber

Lamborghini aims to double deliveries in China, the carmaker’s second-largest market after the U.S., to more than 150 vehicles this year, Winkelmann said. The number of Chinese dealers will increase to 12 from eight, he said.

Lamborghini, founded in 1963, is also expanding research to produce lower weight cars as emission standards are tightened in Europe and the U.S. The VW unit last month set up a center at its headquarters to develop the light composites that complement metals in car frames and in 2009 began a partnership with aircraft maker Boeing Co. to crash-test carbon fiber.

“The consistent development of carbon-fiber technology is a key element of our strategy,” Winkelmann said in the July 28 interview in his office, wearing one of his trademark tailor-made Italian suits. “The weight-to-power ratio is the most important parameter for super-sports cars.”

Lamborghini, whose Gallardo Spyder emits about 400 grams (14.1 ounces) of CO2 per kilometer (0.62 mile), aims to cut emissions on average 35 percent by 2015. Audi’s A3 compact, its lowest polluting model, spurts out 99 grams per kilometer. Lamborghini has already lowered the Gallardo LP 570-4’s weight 70 kilograms using carbon fibers.

“What matters is to reduce CO2 without diluting the DNA of the Lamborghini brand,” said Maurizio Reggiani, the carmaker’s research and development chief. “It’s difficult to sell a Lamborghini if it doesn’t generate emotion.”

Geipel and Lunardi on Silverstone poles

Philip Geipel and Dino Lunardi secured pole positions for the opening races of the 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship at the Silverstone circuit. The Lamborghini and Corvette drivers were quickest in the two qualifying sessions held this morning.

After some rain overnight the session was declared a wet track and it took a few laps before the lap times started to improve. The final minutes of the session saw several drivers taking provisional pole for only a brief moment. Siso Cunill, Daniel Keilwitz and Joe Osborne were all on provisional pole once, but with just over two minutes remaining in the session it was Philip Geipel who posted a 2:04.866. None of the other drivers was able to post a sub 2:05, resulting in the first pole position of 2010 for the Argo Racing Lamborghini

In the second qualifying session it was Dino Lunardi in the number 18 Toni Seiler Racing Corvette who posted the first properly fast lap time in 2:04.576.
All others tried to pass the French driver, but it took until there were only 8,5 minutes left before Martin Ragginger in the number 21 TrackSpeed Porsche was able to go quicker. Ragginger posted a 2:03.636. In the final minutes lap times improved, but only one driver was quicker than Ragginger and that driver was Dino Lunardi again. Improving the time by only 0.098s he secured the pole position for the second race. Ragginger remained in second place, with Christian Hohenadel taking third place.

The session was red flagged with just over a minute left when the BMW Z4 GT3 of Edward Sandström tank-slapped and spun backwards into the gravel, making heavy contact with the barrier.

Underground Racing Lamborghini cracks 250 mph

Earlier this year, we told you about Underground Racing, a shop in Charlotte, N.C., that makes a business out of upgrading Lamborghinis with twin turbochargers to boost engine output to more than 1,000 hp.

Now, a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera upfitted by Underground Racing cracked the 250-mph mark at the Texas Mile event.

Car owner Richard Holt made the 250.1-mph run in late March, but video was posted just this week.

Each China Limited Edition model will come with a numbered badge with the owner's name.
